Chocolatemakers: cacao that sails into the harbour by sailing ship
14 August 2026 · 5 min read
Bean-to-bar chocolate from Amsterdam, made with wind power and fair agreements at the source.
Most chocolate bars have been on a journey nobody can retrace. At Chocolatemakers they know exactly which boat it was - because part of their cacao arrives in Amsterdam by sailing ship.
Bean-to-bar means exactly that here: the beans come in, the bar goes out. Everything in between - roasting, grinding, conching, tempering - happens in-house, on their own machines.
They work with cacao farmers in, among other places, the Dominican Republic, Congo and Colombia, with long-term agreements and projects that go further than a label on the packaging. Organic, fair and as climate-friendly as they can manage.
Can you taste it? Yes. A 92% bar from Congo tastes completely different from a 48% hazelnut one - precisely because the origin isn't blended away.
In our boxes, this is the product that sums up the whole story in one bite: made locally, fair globally. Chocolate you actually have something to say about over coffee.
